Art and fashion have become constant bedfellows of late, with seemingly no end to the possibilities of collaboration and crossover between the two worlds. In our latest online exclusive fashion editorial, photographer Ben Lamberty and stylist Renata Gar take their inspiration from the work of artist JD Doria, whoso photographs of pigments poured into Petri dishes are swirling wonders that speak to both abstraction and the natural world. “When I look at those images, I associate images of volcanos, glaciers, the universe, the sound of drops, and flowing water,” Lamberty explains of Doria’s work, saying that he was drawn to its “raw beauty.”

Born in 1961, J.D. Doria is a multi-disciplinary artist who is currently living and working in Tel Aviv. I must say, Doria’s portfolio showcases some very impressive, while strange, projects. This series, titled “Organic Memory” captures what seems to be paint samples. It is without a doubt that his work carries a strict clinical aesthetics. The fact that his style is obsessively clean (even just look at his website layout!) is beautifully contrasted by the seemingly unpredictable and uncontrollable characteristics of his subjects.
